Background

We sat down with Shannon Delecki, the Recruiting Manager at the University of Michigan Law School to chat about her and the university’s journey with Flo Recruit. Shannon has been with the university since 2018 and is part of the administrative team supporting day-to-day office operations and managing all On-Campus Interview (OCI) programs, including employer networking events.

Challenges Before Implementing Flo Recruit

Prior to Flo Recruit, the university’s recruiting events and interviews were conducted entirely in-person, presenting significant logistical challenges. Organizing and hosting events required substantial coordination and limited the reach to employers who could physically travel to Ann Arbor. This limitation was particularly felt by public interest employers, government agencies, and small to mid-sized firms that could not afford frequent trips.

In the summer of 2020, Shannon and her team explored virtual recruitment solutions to adapt to the challenges posed by COVID-19. After evaluating multiple platforms, they decided on Flo Recruit due to its strong customer support and effective virtual interview capabilities. Shannon emphasized that the Flo Recruit team was dedicated to ensuring their success, offering extensive support during the transition to virtual recruiting.

Q: Can you provide some background on your role at the University of Michigan Law School?

A - Shannon Delecki, Recruiting Manager at the University of Michigan Law School: I joined the University of Michigan Law School in December 2018 as the Recruiting Manager. I'm part of our administrative team, which we call "the A team," and I'm responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our recruiting programs and managing all On-Campus Interview (OCI) programs, including employer networking events.

Q: What were the main challenges you faced with the recruiting process before implementing Flo Recruit?

A: Before Flo Recruit, our recruiting events and interviews were entirely in-person. This created significant logistical challenges, such as coordinating travel and accommodations for employers. It limited our reach to those who could physically come to Ann Arbor, which was particularly challenging for public interest employers, government agencies, and small to mid-sized firms.

Q: Why did you decide to implement Flo Recruit, and what was the selection process like?

A: In the summer of 2020, we needed a virtual recruitment solution due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After evaluating multiple platforms, we chose Flo Recruit because of their exceptional customer support and effective virtual interview capabilities. The Flo Recruit team was dedicated to ensuring our success, offering extensive support throughout the transition.

Q: What are some of the key features of Flo Recruit that have benefited your recruiting programs?

A:

  1. Virtual Interview Platform: Flo Recruit enabled us to conduct virtual OCIs, expanding our reach to employers nationwide without the need for travel. This was especially beneficial for public interest and government employers.
"Flo Recruit really allowed us to broaden our reach to employers who might not have been able to travel to Ann Arbor," Shannon remarked.
  2. Efficient and User-Friendly: The platform is intuitive for both students and employers. Students can easily sign up and attach application materials, while employers can manage their schedules and availability efficiently.
"The ease of use for both students and employers was a game-changer. Students could easily sign up and attach their materials, and employers found the scheduling intuitive."
  3. Real-Time Monitoring: During OCIs, we used Flo Recruit’s dashboard to monitor the status of interviews, ensuring connections were successful and addressing any technical issues promptly.
"We loved the real-time monitoring feature. It allowed us to ensure everything was running smoothly and address any issues right away."
  4. Document Collection: Flo Recruit streamlined the collection of customized cover letters and other application materials, making it intuitive for students to apply and for employers to review applications.
"Flo Recruit made it so easy to collect and review application materials. It was a huge improvement over our previous process."
